Anderson found his voice through drawing at a very young age. He and his mother have navigated life together since his father passed away when Anderson was only four. As someone who is autistic, Anderson finds that spoken words can be difficult, but he has developed his own unique way of learning and communicating with the world.
For Anderson, the process of creating is a sensory experience. He loves using marker pens, listening to the specific "music" they make as they move across the paper. He often sings while he works, feeling that every bright color has its own tune.
While he once felt the need to draw strictly within boxes, Anderson has grown more confident in his expression. He now enjoys drawing people and friends, and he has even begun experimenting with the "messiness" of acrylic paints—a big step for someone who naturally values order and tidiness."

To start every class, Anderson has a special ritual with his markers. He shakes them, smells them, and tests them with a single line before filling the page. While the sound of the marker might be loud to some, it’s a familiar comfort to him. It reminds us that children like Anderson experience the world differently; while a fan might feel too loud for him, these creative sounds are just right.
